Project Evaluation

My responses to the three prompts...

How would you approach another project of this type differently given what you’ve learned here? Although I think the problem I chose is very important, I think it may be too broad. In the future I would try to identify something smaller in scope and smaller in scale. One that comes to mind is working with transformations (translations, reflections, dilations, rotations). The best most textbooks can do is give a 'before' and 'after' picture, which leaves a lot of room for improvement.

What are the lessons learned that others might benefit from knowing about?
Like I mentioned above, I think it would be important to keep the problem smaller. Larger scale problems may be best approached by an entire department or several representatives for a district. Also, finding good research sites beforehand will save time and help find more relevant work on your topic.

In what ways will you endeavor to do the same project again, and what will you change or not do?
It is hard to say. I think each problem that comes up will be unique in some way. Likewise the solution will be different for each problem. I decided not to incorporate videos into this one, but I think that would be a key element for many solutions.

It is difficult to make recommendations for change, when you haven't even had the chance to take the project out on a "test drive." I have always found that it's better to work in small steps, whenever infusing technology into my classroom practices - tweaking as I go along. I think the use of videos would be a great add to your project. I would like to suggest that before you begin creating your own, that you check out YouTube and TeacherTube. I have found some really helpful ones, saving me the time of creating them myself. Please stay in touch and let me know how this all turns out ~ Sue

I agree that it is hard to know what problems you are going to come across before you begin. I think we already try to keep our lessons as problem free as possible. But, as we all know problems are going to arise and we deal with each one as they come. Good luck with this project and enjoy the school year!

I can empathize with you in regards to feeling like you chose to broad of a problem. Mine became very overwhelming as I got through it as well. Your idea about scaling the problem down is what I thought would be best for me as well. Incoporating videos can be very powerful.
